Bill Hilf

More than two decades in technology leadership roles prepared Bill Hilf to serve as the CEO of Vulcan Inc., the organization behind philanthropist and Microsoft cofounder Paul G. Allen’s network of businesses, technology initiatives and philanthropic efforts.


Bill leads the diverse and talented Vulcan employees as they work to realize Paul Allen’s vision to make a positive difference in the world. Vulcan spans a broad range of domains and initiatives, including: technology development, scientific research, cause-related film and media production, policy advocacy, arts and entertainment, and commercial real estate and capital investment.


Prior to joining Vulcan, Bill served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise’s Cloud division, a complex global business with employees across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Hilf was a pioneer in cloud computing and open-source software, with a decade at Microsoft, with his last role serving as General Manager for its Azure cloud portfolio. Hilf’s experience has ranged from roles as a software architect at IBM to engineering and management roles in various startups in the San Francisco Bay area. He holds over a dozen patents in distributed computing.


Bill completed his undergraduate studies at California State University-Fullerton and received his M.A. from Chapman University. He is the founder of High Five Hope, a program focused on empowering street youth in the Philippines.
