Strengthening Our Fight Against Poaching

Wire snares and large commercial bushmeat syndicates remain significant threats to our conservation efforts. These syndicates not only supply bushmeat locally but also export it, putting immense pressure on wildlife in the western Serengeti ecosystem.

Tackling these challenges requires more than just technology; it demands a committed and determined team. That’s why, next month, we will proudly welcome 44 strong men from neighbouring communities to our antipoaching team.

These new scouts will expand patrol coverage, dominate protected areas on foot, and bring fresh energy and skills to the fight against poaching. Their presence will enhance our ability to respond swiftly to threats and allow us to focus on key hotspot areas with targeted deployments.

Starting January 5th, these recruits have undergone a rigorous three-day training program designed to prepare them for the demanding role ahead. The training covered physical fitness, weapons handling, navigation, patrol tactics, fieldcraft, and essential medical skills.

Glen Steyn, our Antipoaching Manager, emphasizes the importance of this mission: “Our goal is to protect and preserve the incredible biodiversity of the western Serengeti ecosystem for future generations. This work is challenging and often dangerous, but we remain deeply committed to safeguarding wildlife and their habitats.”

Thanks to your continued support, we’ve made significant progress over the past two decades. Together, we’ve saved countless animals from wire snares, provided treatment to injured wildlife, conducted day and night patrols, and empowered local communities with sustainable economic alternatives.

As we continue this critical work in 2025, we invite you to stand with us. Join our mission to protect wildlife and secure a thriving future for the next generation.
