Community Outreach
The Community Outreach Program partners with neighboring communities in the western Serengeti. They work towards a future where all can thrive alongside the landscapes they care for.
The Community Outreach Program (COP) has built a diverse portfolio of projects that benefit both present and future generations. Today, COP focuses on enterprise development and entrepreneurship, empowering women and girls, expanding access to quality education, strengthening economic and social resilience to climate change, and delivering environmental education for youth in our neighboring communities.
Scholarships

The Education Support Program helps students from neighboring communities reach their academic goals. The program works with students of all ages and in all stages of their academic journeys, including primary and secondary levels to vocational training, culinary studies, and university degrees.

Scholarships open doors to quality education, while mentorship and life-skills training help young people build confidence and prepare for future opportunities.

Teaching Support Program

The Teaching Support Program (TSP) reduces student–teacher ratios by placing graduate teaching fellows in nearby primary schools facing teacher shortages. The TSP eases pressure on teachers, improves learning quality for core subjects, and helps create stronger foundations for learning.

Environmental Education

Each week, the Environmental Education Center (EEC) hosts local secondary students for a five-day immersive program in environmental science and conservation. Students leave with a stronger understanding of sustainability, the confidence to champion conservation in their communities, and school-based projects they help lead.

Girls Empowerment and Girls Empowerment through Boys

Women and girls continue to face gender-specific barriers that limit access to education, independence, and equality. In response, COP initiated the Girls Empowerment Program to support girls through education, empowerment events, and the distribution of reusable menstrual pads.

In 2021, COP established the Girls Empowerment through Boys Program to include boys in their female peers’ upliftment and to create a space for boys to discuss their own gender-specific issues. Together, the programs look to build a safer, more equitable future for all.

Rural Enterprise Development & Resilient Livelihoods

COP strengthens local economic resilience by supporting community entrepreneurs and promoting climate-smart livelihoods. Through training and mentorship in business and entrepreneurship, participants expand businesses, create jobs, and build sustainable livelihoods.
