The Research team conducts herbaceous vegetation biomass and composition surveys every year. Field technicians navigate tough terrain to measure biomass and identify plant species, helping to assess the landscape’s capacity to support migratory species and local cattle grazing.
The Grumeti Fund regularly conducts two Aerial Surveys – the Aerial Game Survey, which estimates resident wildlife populations, and the Riparian Survey, which monitors key riparian habitats, nesting bird populations, and invasive alien plants. Together, these surveys help us understand the health of the ecosystem and how it is changing.

Together with RISE, the Research and Monitoring team tracks elephants with GPS collars to analyze their movements and behaviors. This research is critical in understanding local elephant populations’ movements and behaviors, and it allows ground teams to mitigate human-elephant conflict in real-time.
