Noel
Mbise
General Manager
Research & Community

Noel joined Grumeti Fund in June 2015 as Head of Research and Monitoring (Ecologist), and in December 2020 promoted to his current role as Grumeti Fund’s General Manager for Research and Community.

Before joining the Grumeti Fund, he worked as an ecologist with Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA). In his younger years, Noel worked in hospitality management as well as in development microfinance. His practical skills lie in environmental and terrestrial ecosystems management, policy analysis, and conservation project design, management, and evaluation. Other professional capacities are in business sustainability, environmental and social impact analysis, governance, environmental consulting, and technological innovations for conservation research and management.

Born in Arusha, Tanzania, Noel grew up on the south-eastern slopes of Mount Meru. The forest scenes, sounds, and smells were very much a part of his childhood. These early encounters with nature inspired his passion for conservation. Concerned about emerging conservation and environmental governance challenges in Africa, Noel pursued and successfully earned his MBA from African Leadership University School of Business in 2019. In 2014, he earned a Master of International Environmental Policy degree from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California where his focus was on Natural Resources Management/Policy and Environmental Sustainability. Prior to his graduate studies, Noel earned a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management (2005) at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Morogoro, Tanzania. He’s a Fullbright alumnus and a Kinship Conservation Fellow.
