Stanslaus
Mwampeta, Ph.D.
Head of Research & Monitoring
(Ecologist)
After more than 10 years immersed in the Serengeti ecosystem, Stan joined the Grumeti Fund in 2023 as Head of Research and Monitoring. There, he leads efforts to turn ecological data into meaningful conservation action.

Stanslaus’ journey into conservation began at the age of seven, when his father first introduced him to the magic of the Serengeti. Growing up in Mugumu, on the edge of this extraordinary landscape, turned childhood curiosity into a lifelong passion.

The passion that earned him a BSc. in Wildlife Science and Conservation from the University of Dar es Salaam, followed by a master’s degree exploring the ecology of caracals and servals. He monitored lion prides in Serengeti National Park along the way, the hands-on experience that inspired his doctoral work. He later completed a Ph.D. at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where he refined methods for estimating lion populations, contributing valuable tools to big-cat conservation. His research has since appeared in respected scientific journals.

For Stan, though, conservation is not just a scientific mission – it is a team commitment. His vision is simple: bring people together, share knowledge generously, and build a future where ecosystems flourish and life in all its forms can endure.
